In Pontchâteau, France, the first titles of the new Cyclocross season will be handed out this Sunday. Familiar territory as the European Championships were also held here in 2016. On a blazing fast course, Toon Aerts was given space and outsmarted Mathieu van der Poel and Wout van Aert at the time.
This weekend, all three names big are missing and the main focus is on Thibau Nys, Lars van der Haar, Eli Iserbyt, Laurens Sweeck and defending champion Michael Vanthourenhout. On the women's side we've got Fem van Empel as the main favourite. Moreover, the conditions are completely different. A lot of rain and wind are expected on Saturday, which could make for a brutal race on Sunday.
