Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, could be the city that will host the start of the Vuelta a Espana 2024. The rumour has surged today, after the race having cancelled the stages in it's Iberic neighbor back in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to AS, "there are talks with several locations and Lisbon is the one most likely to host the departure". Up to 4 times the Spanish grand tour by stages has left the national borders: in 1997 from Portugal (also from Lisbon), in 2009 from Assen (Netherlands), 2017 in Nimes (France) and in 2022 again in the Netherlands (this time in Utrecht). Much of the route will be unveiled in the coming weeks, including it's starting location.
