VIDEO: Mathieu van der Poel narrowly avoids disaster in Renewi Tour ITT with expert bike handling

Stage 2 of the 2024 Renewi Tour saw the riders take on an individual time trial. An early key stage for those with plans of winning the general classification.
One of those riders touted as having potential race winning capabilities is world champion Mathieu van der Poel and whilst the Dutchman's time trial efforts weren't anything spectacular, things were almost absolutely disastrous as Alpecin-Deceuninck superstar narrowly avoided a potential crash with some of his trademark, brilliant bike handling skills.

Yes. Definetly his cyclocross reflexes coming into play here. It is pretty common to pull out your foot in corners, wet grass and mud is extremely slippery, whereas asphalt is fairly predictable in comparison!😅

- Congratulations to Ayuso, this is a great win. The person who interests me more is Pidcock, who is racking up a fabulous set of podiums this season. The wins are good, but these second and third places are really interesting. Strade Bianchi and today's queen stage and a sprint against van der Poel?
