VIDEO: Fan throws bidon right into the face of Mathieu van der Poel during Paris-Roubaix 2025

Mathieu van der Poel is sadly no stranger to being on the receiving end of some crowd trouble. At Paris-Roubaix 2025 however, it might be the most shocking example yet as the Alpecin-Deceuninck leader had a bottle thrown directly into his face by a 'fan' at the roadside.

Following a slip up from Tadej Pogacar, Van der Poel was soloing through the next sector of cobbles at the front of the race. For some at the roadside however, this clearly was not the desired result and as mentioned, one 'fan' - and we use that term very loosely - took matters into the their own hands by throwing what looked like a Team Visma | Lease a Bike bidon straight into the Dutch superstar's face. Thankfully, he managed to stay upright despite the clear discomfort and it doesn't look as if it will change anything in terms of the result, but honestly, that isn't the point.
