At the start of the 17th stage there will be one less rider as it was now Tim Wellens who tested positive and will be another figure missing for the final stages.
Lotto Soudal have shared this morning that this morning the Belgian rider had mild symptoms for the disease, and upon testing it was revealed that Wellens had been infected with the virus, leaving the team down to seven riders.
Wellens had been a shadow of himself throughout the race, surprisingly after finishing second in the Baloise Belgium Tour just weeks before. He hadn't been in contention for any stage, and his first breakaway was coincidentally yesterday. However, he could only finish 22nd, confirming the lack of form he had felt throughout the race.
