For the first time in his career,
Lennard Kämna came into a three-week stage race with ambitions of overall victory. After securing a ninth-placed finish in the final GC standings of the
Giro d'Italia, the
BORA - hansgrohe rider is pleased with his performance.
"This was the first time that I was a GC leader in the grand tour, and I have to say that with the 9th place in the general classification, we can be pretty pleased," Kamna told his team's official website following the conclusion to the 2023 Giro d'Italia. "It’s not necessarily an easy feat to perform day in day out for three weeks in the grand tour, and I think that my performance is a reflection of the hard work and preparation that everybody in the team put into this goal."
Eventually finishing 7:46 down on the overall winner, Primoz Roglic, Kamna faded slightly in the third week but nevertheless produced an impressive performance. "I really want to thank my teammates for their support over the past few weeks," he continues. "Even though we lost two riders due to illness, and some of us were not always at 100% fitness during the race, the morale in the team was always good and the guys supported me really well."
"Thank you also to the staff and who supported us here in Italy. All in all, with our two stage wins with Nico and my 9th place in the general classification, this was a pleasing Giro," concludes the 26-year-old.
