After another blistering Tour de France campaign, Tadej Pogacar is set to return to his roots this August, headlining the criterium that bears his name in his hometown of Komenda, Slovenia. The Tadej Pogacar Trophy, established in 2019 by Kolesarsko društvo Rog, has become a fixture on the Slovenian cycling calendar — but this year, the race takes on added significance.
In a deliberate move to accommodate Pogacar’s presence, organisers have shifted the event from late June to Saturday, 9 August, and relocated the circuit from Komenda’s business zone to the town centre, directly in front of the municipal building. The adjustment allows Pogacar to appear post-Tour, fulfilling his wish to race in front of a home crowd and showcase the community that shaped him.
“It was clear early on that June wouldn’t work, with the Dauphiné and the Tour taking priority,” said Teja Hauptman, press officer for the Pogi and Pika Team. “But Tadej was adamant — he wanted to be there. He wanted the race route to show where he comes from.”
The criterium will feature a one-kilometre circuit starting at Komenda’s now-iconic roundabout — frequently repainted in colours reflecting Pogacar’s latest achievements — and finishing atop a short rise in front of the town’s church. Riders from youth categories through to the Elite will compete, with the main event at 19:30 local time serving as a de facto celebration of Pogacar’s 2025 season and a rare chance for local fans to see their hero up close.
Pogacar won’t be alone either. He’s invited a handful of close friends and rivals to join the festivities. Confirmed riders include UAE Team Emirates - XRG teammates Tim Wellens and Pavel Sivakov, as well as Matej Mohoric, Matteo Trentin, and Luka Mezgec. Michael Matthews is a possible late addition.

Organised jointly by KD Rog, Pogi and Pika Team coaches, and the Municipality of Komenda — with strong support from Pogacar’s parents, Marjeta and Mirko — the event promises not only elite racing, but a heartfelt homecoming for Slovenia’s greatest cycling talent.
