Oier Lazkano was completely shattered when he was interviewed post-race after winning the Clasica Jaén Paraíso Interior.
"The breakaway formed late, with several groups. It was the kilometre forty-something and when it takes so long it's so hard," recounted the Spanish national champion. "It was hard, the peloton has fought but first victory of the year, it's always nice to win."
He emphasized, as he did in Burgos, the happiness of winning on Spanish soil with the champion's jersey he won last year. "Winning in Spain with the jersey is a very nice thing," he assesses. "Very proud of the work of these months. I'm very happy that it's paying off. Pure agony, you don't think much just, pure agony. Someday I'd like to win easier, but that's never how it is."
We will see now how Oier Lazkano can perform in the spring classics. Race by race he is proving that he is a very strong rider in this type of races and last year he already showed his quality with a second place in the Dwars door Vlaanderen. We will see this year what he is able to do in races like the Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix.
