Netcompany INEOS lose yet another promising American youngster; this time to NSN Cycling Team

NSN Cycling Team announced its fifth newcomer for the 2027 season: the American rouleur Artem Shmidt, who joins after two years at Netcompany INEOS on a three-year deal.
Shmidt was a leading figure of the 2004-class during his junior days, but his next step was not completely fluent. However a promotion to Netcompany INEOS towards the end of 2024 season seemed to have come at a right time.
Already the next year, Shmidt became the American time trial champion and podiumed a Tour de Suisse stage. But his real breakthrough came this year. Shmidt was 7th in a highly-contested UAE Tour time trial, 9th in the same discipline at Tour de Pologne, defended his ITT title, and won the Classique Dunkerque (1.Pro) with a solo attack.
Moving on to NSN Cycling Team, both parties picture a future for Shmidt as a part of the team's growing Classics team while Shmidt is to continue developing his time trialing ability.
"There were many things that stood out to me about NSN Cycling Team," says Shmidt. "The professionalism and the way the team came across in our meetings were important but what really made an impact was the culture. The English-speaking environment and the atmosphere in the team were big factors for me and the racing style is more my type of beat. Being up the road, attacking, and on that front foot is the mentality that we share."

Eyeing a GrandTour debut
Shmidt is looking forward to getting stuck into the upcoming season with his sights set on a Grand Tour debut.
"I really look forward to seeing what potential I can reach with NSN," adds Shmidt. "I’ve already shown some strengths in the time trial and I want to keep developing further and hopefully become one of the favorites in that category."
"In terms of my development in the road racing, I believe NSN is the perfect team for me to develop an aggressive and opportunistic racing style and really sharpen those characteristics I have shown as a rider. My big objectives will naturally be the time trials and spring Classics, but I would love to do my first Grand Tour."

Meanwhile on the opposite end, Netcompany INEOS lose yet another talented youngster. After the departure of AJ August (to Pinarello Q36.5), and the expected move of Magnus Sheffield (linked to Uno-X Mobility), the amount of US rider in the British team drops to zero in an instant.

He's never placed worse than 9th, I think, and did terribly today, by his own standards, meaning he finished outside the top 5 for only the 2nd time, at 6th. - The past few years, I've been on the ground in Quebec, but I missed it this year. Watching on TV for the new circuit was interesting. Congratulations to Evenepoel on his win, the right strategy and the legs to do it, clinical and excellent. Really superbly done - and he didn't get pissed off along the way, he just took the race apart at just the right time! This is going to be a hell of a world championship. Rafionain-Glas11-09-2026 - A great win by Dunbar. I thought he was done when they caught him after his first solo attempt. To climb like that and so visibly break Buitrago’s mental efforts was amazing to watch. Both of them clearly went beyond what their bodies wanted them to do, with Dunbar coming out on top.
