So far, it wasn't a season to remember for Maximilian Schachmann. The BORA - hansgrohe riderhas been struggling with health for over a year now. His 2021 form is till nowhere to be found, but 14th place against a strong field gives the 29-year old German a lot of motivation for days (and weeks) to come.
"This was my first time trial this year and it was good to be back in the race. I had a lot of downtime in the spring because of my health and it was tough. My performance today wasn't necessarily outstanding but solid and I'm pretty happy with that. It's a good return to stage racing," says Max Schachmann.
"We expected a headwind in the first part of the time trial, and a tailwind in the second part. However, it ended up being the opposite at the end of the day. So our pacing strategy changed for Max and Cian," adds coach John Wakefield.
