Lorena Wiebes powers to sprint victory on opening stage of 2024 UAE Tour Women

In a bunch sprint finish, Team SD Worx - Protime's Lorena Wiebes opened her account her 2024 with a dominant victory at the UAE Tour Women.

Although it took over half the stage for the elastic to finally snap when a breakaway did eventually form, just a sole rider, Gaia Segato managed to get out in front and soon after she was joined by Yanina Kuskova. Sadly for them though, they couldn't make it stick and a whole peloton attacked the finale together.

A late crash saw a number of riders held up with around 10km to go, but pre-stage favourite, Lorena Wiebes was unaffected and as such, was able to power her way to a sprint win ahead of Rachele Barbieri and Chiara Consonni.
