Lennard Kämna certainly didn't disappoint in the decisive mountain time trial of this year's Giro d'Italia, despite losing one position in the general classification to finish 9th overall. The German ITT champion started the TT strongly with a 6th time on the first time check, but couldn't keep the pace uphill and eventually crossed the line in 14th, 2:18 behind the stage and race winner - Primoz Roglic.
"As expected, this was a really difficult time trial. We prepared well for it and knew that I had a good chance of doing well. What can I say, other than I give it my all, on this last decisive day in the GC, and I’m pleased with my performance," said Kämna.
"It was a brutal time trial. Today I followed Lenni on the moto, which was actually quite a good experience. Lenni really did his best. We only slipped one place in the general classification and I think that, all in all, he performed well today. Last week he was struggling with illness, and that might be the reason why he suffered over the last couple of days. Overall, we finish this Giro with a top-10 finish in GC and two stage wins, so I would say this was a successful Giro for us," concluded Enrico Gasparotto, the team's Sport Director.
