Jon Aberasturi comes close to victory in the third stage of La Vuelta: "We risked a little, I had to evade another rider"

Jon Aberasturi was the best Spanish rider in the third stage of the Vuelta a Espana 2024. The 35-year-old Euskaltel - Euskadi rider crossed the finish line in third place, only behind the two main sprinters of this year's race, Wout van Aert and Kaden Groves.

"It was a finish that was hard as it chopped up in the last kilometer," he reflected. "We risked a little passing on the left and I had to evade another rider and spend a bit of energy."

Aberasturi also praised the work of his teammates: "The work of the team putting two men in the breakaway, winning the mountain sprint (Maté) and Isasa holding off the longest time and then me finish so near the victory. There will only be one sprint left on the fifth day, let's see if we get a good position and we're close to winning again."
