Jasper Philipsen continues a very successful streak of results on his home soil, winning Elfstedenronde Brugge in front of the likes of Caleb Ewan or Fabio Jakobsen.
Although before riders even reached the finale, Philipsen already lost two of his valuable Alpecin-Deceuninck teammates - Timo Kielich and Jonas Rickaert, who both went down earlier on the day. "That is indeed a pity, but fortunately I know how to come up with my own plan. The team has supported me as best as possible and then I was in a good position in the end. Then I could do my sprint and that was enough."
In addition to other sprinters, the winner of the day faced another oppnent: the heat. "My biggest concern was overheating, because that could happen quite easily today. The pace was sometimes controlled, but the heat made it really tough."
Next up for Philipsen is Baloise Belgium Tour. "Having a help in the final will be crucial there. We have new opportunities there, of course with Mathieu van der Poel and Ramon Sinkeldam also there. We'll certainly have a strong team," he explains the goals.
