"I'm better now and hope to be back at my peak" - Jonas Vingegaard battling illness but through the worst part

Tour de France winner Jonas Vingegaard is looking to claim back-to-back Grand Tour victories at the 2023 Vuelta a Espana. The past through days though, the Dane has been battling against himself as much as any of his rivals.

In a pre-stage 6 interview, the Jumbo-Visma rider was surprised to learn that Denmark's TV2 had somehow found out about his struggles with illness over the past few days. "How do you know!?" Vingegaard laughed when asked about the topic. "Well, I had it a few days ago. I've had a bit of trouble and I definitely think I've been hampered by something."

Thankfully for Vingegaard and his legion of fans however, it looks as if the worst has passed for the Dane. "I'm better now and hope to be back at my peak but we'll see today," he explains, previewing a very challenging stage 6 of the race.
