In an interview with WielerFlits after Brabantse Pijl, which was the last race of his Spring Classics campaign, Wellens reflected on the first part of his season, as the Belgian rider said “I am very satisfied with my spring, I have participated in many races for victory. Unfortunately I don't have a victory, but the fact that I was there and played along is already very good and important. Not only I, but also my teammate Nils [Politt] had a very good spring. As a team it was very good”.
For the rest of his season, the
UAE Team Emirates rider will now be turning his attention to riding the Tour de France alongside Tadej Pogačar in the summer, as he explained “I fly home, have a few days of leave, then I go to an altitude training camp, then there is the Dauphiné, then another altitude training camp and then the Tour de France. We will try to win that with Tadej”.
