Egan Bernal victorious for the first time since Giro d'Italia 2021: "For us it is like our little Tour de France"

Egan Bernal opened the 2025 season in style with a national title! For the 28-year-old rider, this is the first victory since his overal triumph at the 2021 Giro d'Italia. The INEOS Grenadiers rider beat three-time winner Walter Vargas by 7 seconds and teammate Brandon Rivera by 29 seconds. The new time trial champion of Colombia will try to double-down by winning also the road race, scheduled for this Sunday.

After crossing the finish line, the Bogota native spoke about his feelings on the road. It is his second victory in the national championships against the clock, seven years after his previous triumph.

"Yes, it was a special time trial. With a downhill and a climb, I really wanted to do it, two years ago I wanted to do it, but because of a knee pain I could not do it. For us it is like our Tour de France and it is very special for us, as for Colombian cycling lovers."

Finally, he spoke of how little he competes in Colombia and was happy to have been with his family: "We have few opportunities where our family can see us, this is one of them. At the end there are many emotions knowing that they are with us."
