Covid-19 inflicts further serious damage in Vuelta a Espana as Kern Pharma loose 3 riders

This morning has been a cruel one for several riders in the peloton, with GC contenders Simon Yates and Pavel Sivakov abandoning the race due to Covid-19. The news had followed those of Sam Bennett and Ethan Hayter the day before which is severely cutting the rider quality in the Vuelta a Espana peloton. However, the smaller teams are also having damage inflicted, as is the case of Equipo Kern Pharma.

Making it five abandons total today before the start of stage 11, the Spanish team announced the departure of Roger Adrià, Hector Carretero and Pau Miquel. They are now down to five riders, but the sudden appearance of three positive Covid cases indicate an outbreak within the team.
