Massive congratulations are being sent to Intermarché - Wanty's Eritrean superstar Biniam Girmay, after the four-time Grand Tour stage winner has announced the birth of his second child with partner Saliem. As a result, Girmay will not be racing at Opening Weekend.
"I am so happy to become father for the second time," announces the 24-year-old in quotes posted by Intermarché - Wanty's official social media pages. "I am grateful to my team to give me the opportunity to come back in Eritrea to be close to my wife and my daughters for this important moment in my life."
What this means for Girmay in a racing aspect, is that the Tour de France Green Jersey winner will not be present at Opening Weekend. "I will be back in Europe to chase my dream of winning a first monument, with Milano-Sanremo, E3 Harelbeke, Gent Wevelgem and Tour of Flanders on my program," he concludes his message defiantly.
Congratulations to Biniam Girmay and Saliem for the birth of their second child ❤️
