Cian Uijdebroeks finished 6th at Belgian Championships earlier this week. While it's not a bad result, the BORA-hansgrohe rider admits that he was miles away from the best.
"It's definitely okay. The route didn't really suit me. It was quite explosive, especially with all the corners. I don't like technical courses very much and because of the rain I didn't want to take any risks with Vuelta in mind."
"On the straights I was going as fast as possible, but in the corners I was very conservative," added Uijtdebroeks. "We could see that I am good at climbing in the laps, but the time trial part really needs to improve. You do that by doing time trial training, but even more by riding time trials."
Uijtdebroeks is scheduled to make his first Grand Tour appearance at La Vuelta in August: "We start with an open mindset and a free role. We'll see how it goes every day and maybe something good will come out, but maybe not. They don't want to put pressure on me. I will try to ride the best I can.”
