Back into the White Jersey and one place higher on the GC. @_rccarlos gave us his thoughts on stage 16 as he warmed down following the mighty Lagos de Covadonga #LaVuelta24
Carlos Rodríguez crossed the finish line in 15th position, sixth among the favorites for the final overall classification, in the 16th stage of the Vuelta a Espana 2024 finishing in the Lagos de Covadonga. The INEOS Grenadiers Spaniard lost just 9 seconds to Enric Mas, Richard Carapaz and Primoz Roglic, who were the first three candidates for the red jersey to finish.
In the overall, he has moved up one place and is now 7th and has regained the white jersey of the best young rider of the race. He has 6th, David Gaudu, only 5 seconds ahead but he has to be careful because behind him he has his two rivals for the youth classification, Mattias Skjelmose at 7 and Florian Lipowitz at 34 seconds.
After the stage, the rider from Almuñécar spoke to the microphones of La Vuelta and commented on how he had felt during the day, especially on the final climb, and on what he expected now from the rest of the days and the last week.
"Yes [I'm happy with my stage]. I think I did a good last climb, I managed the effort well. I would have liked to be in front with the top favorites, but I think I was close. Maybe it's not the best conditions for me with this rain and this fog. I'm happy. I hope it's a good start for the third week, and from now on, even better. Now it's time to recover a bit and try to focus on the last stages."
