Anna Henderson has taken the win on stage 2 at the 2025 Giro d'Italia women, outsprinting Dilyxine Miermont to the line, after the pair had held off the GC chase group on the final climb. Notably, Henderson also takes hold of the Maglia Rosa in the process.
With the stage all about the final climb to the line, the duo of Dilyxine Miermont (CERATIZIT Pro Cycling Team) and Anna Henderson (Lidl-Trek) had around a two minute and a half advantage over the peloton as they began the lower slopes of the 12.9km final ascent. By 10km to go, the leading duo's advantage was already cut to closer to a minute. In a much diminished peloton meanwhile, Lotte Kopecky was notably struggling to hold the wheel.
At 9km to go, race leader Marlen Reusser then made her first big move, drawing out Elisa Longo Borghini, Antonia Niedermaier and a few others in a select chasing group. Realising she wasn't breaking free just yet however, Reusser relented and things came back together slightly.
Henderson and Miermont though, were limiting their losses well, still around 45 seconds clear as they reached some of the steepest slopes at 3.5km to go. Inside the last kilometre, it was still a 30 second lead. In the fight for the stage it was then British star Henderson that prevailed taking the win.
