Diego Uriarte of Equipo Kern Pharma has taken the win on the penultimate stage of the 2025 Vuelta a Andalucia, as the breakaway prevailed on stage 4 in Alhaurín de la Torre
Heading into the final 40km, there was a large group of around 14 riders up the road, including notable names such as Connor Swift, Emils Liepins, Callum Scotson, Sebastian Berwick and Anders Johannessen, meaning the peloton's hopes of another bunch sprint finish were by no means certain. In fact, at 30km to go, the break although now down to just 12 riders, was still around 1:50 clear of the peloton and racing towards the finale. At around 20km to go, things properly calmed down in the peloton, signalling the victory of the day was indeed heading to the break.
Realising this, it wasn't long before break began to start attacking itself. At 10km to go, a six-man group had forced separation at the front, with Swift, Berwick and Scotson joined by Alan Jousseaume, Diego Uriarte and Danny van der Tuuk. The group were still all together into the final 3km, but then the attacks started in earnest. As it turned out, when Uriarte attacked, everyone else simply looked at each other, allowing the Spaniard to take the win ahead of Jousseaume and Swift.
