Bas van Belle (24), older brother of Visma star Loe van Belle tragically passes away

On an incredibly sad day for cycling, the KNWU, (Dutch Cycling Association) have reported the death of 24-year-old Wielerploeg Groot Amsterdam rider, Bas van Belle.
In a message on their official website, the KNWU announced the "unexpected passing" of Van Belle, the older brother of Team Visma | Lease a Bike star Loe van Belle. "It is with great sadness and sorrow that the KNWU learned of the unexpected passing of Bas van Belle. We mourn his loss, Bas leaves a great void in the world of cycling. Our thoughts go out to his family - especially his parents and sister and brother Lisa and Loe - his friends and everyone who knew Bas. We will remember him as a warm-hearted and friendly person, as well as a talented cyclist," the announcement reads.

- We all hope it, like parents, but those type of children only learn from their own mistakes ;-) Yeah, feel lucky I heal pretty fast, even at advanced age but we don’t really get to see how things look under their clothes. For sure they have better pain killers but I don’t ever remember feeling much pain when in a state to ride on, the adrenaline seems to just focus on that one objective. Later is another thing, I once (only time ever) fainted in the shower an hour post accident when trying to clean a wound, luckily another rider who’d witnessed it had sacrificed himself not to leave my side.Mistermaumau13-03-2025
