All Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe riders who crashed in Hungary escape without serious injuries

This Thursday was marked by heavy crashes in Hungary as well as in Italy. The common naming factor of both incidents is that Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe riders were among the crashes' main victims.
Jai Hindley was forced to abandon in Italy, but the damages were even larger over in Hungary. A high speed crash was caused by Ryan Mullen who briefly went on the roadside. That caused him to lose control over his bike and crash uncontrolably into the peloton, taking many of his teammates along. Among those affected were also his teammates Sam Welsford and Frederik Wandahl.
Furthermore also Pablo Torres (UAE Team Emirates - XRG) and Rainer Kepplinger (Bahrain - Victorious) were forced to immediately abandon. The organization informed that two ambulances and a helicopter transported the five most impacted men to the hospital in a stable condition. Especially Wandahl seemed to have been hit quite badly.
But the latest news on the health state of all riders is positive. "According to initial information, all three riders are in stable condition and have not sustained serious injuries. However, Frederik Wandahl will remain in hospital overnight for observation," the team informs TV 2 Sport.

I think many don’t realise how fast the stage was, if you look at the names who got ejected from the peleton most of the top 20 showed an amazing resilience, Ayuso had it easy, maybe because he chose to play it smart, maybe because he was too close to the limit, both are possible. Cycling is a funny sport, the only one where you can actually improve as the race goes along, well, in GTs at least. UAE are not a team, they’re a collective of well paid talent that are hard to beat, the Real Madrid of cycling, but, with that come unmanageable egos and unlike in football (except Ronaldo) individual gials still top team performance so what do you expect. - Roads outside the capital are some of the best in the world, tarmac smooth as track. Beautiful tea-plantation landscapes, perfect weather, delicious cheap fruit. People are friendly but « sticky » with cyclists. Truck and bus drivers are criminal, you’ll experience feeling like Bernal anywhere busy. Globally not cheap. Genocide museum is peaceful but heavy. Lake Kivu is amazing (also to swim in) but has some dark « mysteries » Take a dirty bike, they’ll clean (chain too) & oil it for 1$. If you have a spare old working bike, consider saving on its return ticket and helping local cycling/triathlon associations, they’re athletes have nothing and they’ll find a way to keep it alive with whatever means, like connecting an old spoke to any broken one to retighten a wheel. Tourist attractions are expensive but pay for useful activities (protecting wildlife mainly). Plastic bags are banned, theft is very badly frowned upon so unlikely, service is generally bad but it helps if you explain what you expect. Go do it, it’s a great experience (if you wait a few more years, cycling friend of mine is building rental homes at the lake and will be organising bike tours).Mistermaumau18-05-2025
