In a truly thrilling finale the Maillot Jaune was up for grabs until the very final pedal strokes of the last climb at the 2024 Criterium du Dauphine. In the end,
Primoz Roglic managed to just about hold on to the win ahead of an incredibly impressive
Matteo Jorgenson.
With just over 5km to go,
Carlos Rodriguez made an attack. Jorgenson was straight on the back wheel, as was
Derek Gee and Santiago Buitrago. Notably though, Roglic was in trouble. Noticing the situation, Jorgenson, who started the day second at 1:02 took to the front of the leaders group and started to push on and when the Team Visma | Lease a Bike leader launched his final brutal acceleration, only Rodriguez could follow the American. In the end, it was Rodriguez who took the stage, and the experience of Roglic proved key as he limited losses to survive a real scare with his Maillot Jaune in tact.
What that means for the final classification, is that Primoz Roglic takes the overall win by just 8 seconds from Jorgenson, with Gee completing the podium in third at 36 seconds. Carlos Rodriguez moves up to 4th with his stage win with INEOS Grenadiers teammate
Laurens De Plus rising to 5th.
Aleksandr Vlasov wasn't at his best on the final stage, but did enough to keep his high GC standing in 6th. With
Remco Evenepoel (7th),
Oier Lazkano (8th),
Giulio Ciccone (9th) and
Mikel Landa (10th) completing the top-10.
