Tom Pidcock had to settle for second position in Overijse
World Cup. After leading for most of the race, he made a mistake on the last lap, giving
Michael Vanthourenhout the chance to take the victory.
"It was a nice race. It was really nice, but I'm a little frustrated," Pidcock told WielerFlits. He faced a mechanical problem at the start. "My chain jammed at the start, I don't know why. I also had such a problem during reconnaissance and maybe this was the same bike. But I'm not sure."
On the second lap, he changed the course of the race and took the lead. "I was going really well, but in the last laps, I didn't have that feeling. It's the first cross of the season. And even though it only takes an hour, it's full throttle. You have to get used to that a little bit," explained the Brit.
Astonishingly, Pidcock didn't even train much compared to his peers. He praises Vanthourenhout's achievement and is pleased with the results. "I trained for two hours and did an hour of cross-training yesterday, so that gives me three hours in the legs. I can be happy, especially with every day in this rainbow jersey. And Michael showed why he won the European Championship. He was very good today," concluded Pidcock.
