The UCI World Cup was supposed to be stopping off in Sardinia this Sunday afternoon for the Cabras round. Sadly though, it seems that due to extremely high winds, the races of the day have now been cancelled.

"Official: The World Cup in Cabras has been cancelled due to extreme winds," reports the Cyclocross Social page on X (Twitter). High winds and rain have been battering much of Europe over the last few days, with the Everton vs Liverpool match in the English Premier League notably cancelled on Saturday, and now the World Cup Cabras has also been a victim of the bad weather.

"It's just not possible. The wind is so bad that the riders are blown off their bikes," says Sven Nys in quotes collected by HLN. "Cancellation is the only option, for the safety of the riders. I wouldn't want any serious accidents to happen here."

“This has a huge impact on the team,” Nys continues. “Lucinda Brand was able to secure her World Cup ranking here to a large extent. That has fallen through to a certain extent. She could easily lose the World Cup because of this. There are already people who travel for three weeks, from a week before Dublin, to come here to race. That is all a shame. But safety comes first.”

“This costs a lot of money,” says Nys. “We hope to be safely on the plane or boat and to get home safely. But the consequences will only become clear afterwards.”
