Vuelta a Espana 2025 GC Update: Stunning stage 3 success sees David Gaudu tied for time with Red Jersey Jonas Vingegaard

Three days into the 2025 Vuelta a Espana and the general classification is already beginning to take shape. Jonas Vingegaard (Team Visma | Lease a Bike) remains in control, leading the race with a total time of 10:55:36. The Dane has yet to put real daylight between himself and the rest of the contenders though, and he now has company at the top of the GC standings.

The most notable mover after Stage 3 is David Gaudu. The Frenchman has risen to second overall, drawing level on time with Vingegaard. For Groupama - FDJ, this is an encouraging start — Gaudu has long threatened to make the leap into Grand Tour contention, and sitting shoulder to shoulder with the race leader after the opening block suggests he may be ready to take that step.

Giulio Ciccone slipped one place to third, now eight seconds down. The Italian remains very much in touch and will view this as a manageable gap given the terrain still to come. Just behind, Egan Bernal sits fourth at +14. The Colombian looks quietly assured, and with INEOS Grenadiers committed to supporting him, his position is strong.

From fifth to ninth the standings are understandably still remarkably tight, with Tom Pidcock, Jai Hindley, Santiago Buitrago, Matteo Jorgenson, and Juan Ayuso all tied at +16. That cluster highlights just how evenly balanced the GC fight is at this early stage — any one of them could rise or fall significantly with the first true mountain top finish.

Rounding out the top ten is Valentin Paret-Peintre, climbing three spots into tenth at +16. For Soudal - Quick-Step, his presence adds another GC card to play.
