Filippo Zana delivered on the hardest day of the race, attacking on Su Pradu to win Stage 4 of the Giro di Sardegna and turn the general classification on its head.
With 17km to go, race leader Nicolo Garibbo was already distanced, losing over three minutes on the decisive climb. From there, it became a full Soudal Quick-Step offensive.
Zana launched the move that stuck inside the final 15km, opening a gap that steadily grew as the chasing group fractured behind. Attempts from Darren van Bekkum and Adria Pericas failed to close it, and the gap only increased inside the final kilometres.
Zana crossed the line alone to claim the stage win, confirming the jersey change that had been brewing all afternoon.

Quick-Step dominance on Su Pradu

The race exploded on the 12km ascent of Su Pradu. Repeated accelerations from Gianmarco Garofoli softened the front group before Zana delivered the decisive strike.
Garibbo, who had led since his Stage 1 upset, simply could not follow on the toughest gradients. By the summit, the Giro di Sardegna had a new hierarchy.
With Garofoli and Zana both starting the day just four seconds down, the time gaps gained on the climb ensure Quick-Step now hold control heading into the final stage to Olbia.
Stage 4 was billed as the queen stage. It delivered, and it delivered a new leader.
