Gerben Thijssen abandons 2024 Tour de France whilst over 26 minutes down on stage 15

The queen stage of the 2024 Tour de France and on Bastille Day no less, stage 15 offers plenty for both the fans and the GC men to get excited about. For the sprinters however, this is a day of nightmares.
One of the first riders dropped on the day was the Green Jersey wearing Biniam Girmay's Intermarché - Wanty teammate, Gerben Thijssen. With over 50km - mostly uphill - still to go, the 26-year-old Belgian sprinter was already over 26 minutes down on the front of the race. As such, Thijssen has now abandoned the 2024 Tour de France.
It's not yet known if the Belgian is one of those within the peloton suffering from one of the various illnesses circling or whether it's just a particularly bad day for Thijssen. But one thing for sure is that this is the last we have seen of the nine time race winner on his Tour de France debut.

- Pointless reporting. They are rivals, each tries their way to get their best result, with or without collaboration. As long as it’s all fair, why even report riders feelings about such stuff (yes I know, lack of other news). Anyone riding races will go through dozens of moments per race where they get emotional about the way someone else rides or takes advantage or doesn’t collaborate or more, it is natural, it is justified, it is NOT newsworthy!Mistermaumau17-11-2024
