Fabio Jakobsen to lead Dutch national team in European Championship

The Netherlands has revealed its lineup for the European Cycling Championships. Fabio Jakobsen and Lorena Wiebes will lead the team.

European Championship features flat terrains, which give an advantage to sprinters. Lorena Wiebes will try to keep her Tour de France Femmes form in which she won two stages. Jos van Emden, Ellen van Dijk and Riejanne Markus will be participating in the time trial.

National coach Loes Gunnewijk certainly thinks Wiebes' performance in tour demonstrates her excellent form. "Lorena Wiebes is currently one of the fastest women in the peloton, during the Tour de France Femmes, she took two stage victories that way. Lorena is also the leader for the European Championship. We have a nice selection of women for whom the EC fits nicely into the competition schedule. We are going for double gold,” said Gunnewijk.

Fabio Jakobsen is another trump card of the team. He secured victory in the second stage of the Tour de France. "With this strong team, we can support Fabio well, and we want to drop him off in the best possible spot for a bunch sprint,” said Gunnewijk.
