Although Lidl-Trek managed to secure the stage win in the team time-trial, Ellen van Dijk was involved in a nasty crash, on the final corner.

The 37-year-old Dutchwoman managed to cross the line post-crash and successfully navigated her way through stages 2 and 3. Sadly though, the Lidl-Trek star will not be present at the start of stage 4 this afternoon in Molina de Aragón. “After I struggled a lot to get to the finish yesterday, we decided to give the body what it needs right now,” Van Dijk explains in a Tweet.

The team also commented on van Dijk's withdrawal, saying the following. "Despite her best efforts, Ellen van Dijk will not continue racing at La Vuelta Femenina due to ongoing difficulties from injuries sustained in Stage 1. With many more goals on the horizon, the best decision is to prioritize Ellen’s long-term recovery"
