2024 Vuelta a Espana GC Update after stage 17: Ben O'Connor one day closer to Madrid as podium hopefuls survive sprint stage

Stage 17 of the 2024 Vuelta a Espana was never a day for the general classification riders to make big differences. Given the horrendous weather conditions however, there was a risk that nearly three weeks hard work could have been wiped out.

Thankfully however, all the big names survived the slippery and technical finale unscathed as Kaden Groves sprinted to his third stage win of the Grand Tour. As such, Ben O'Connor retains his 5 second lead over Primoz Roglic in the general classification with Enric Mas completing the provisional podium in third. With no further changes in the rest of the top 10, the GC riders will go again tomorrow.
