Results Tour de France Femmes 2026 Stage 2 - Lorena Wiebes wins in yellow to make it two from two and claim record seventh stage victory

Lorena Wiebes claimed back-to-back victories at the 2026 Tour de France Femmes after Riejanne Markus was caught only 500 metres from the finish of Stage 2 in Geneva.

Markus had attacked with around 40 kilometres remaining and forced Team SD Worx – Protime into a prolonged chase across the flat closing roads. Her advantage remained close to 30 seconds inside the final five kilometres, leaving Wiebes’ team running out of riders as the solo leader continued to resist.

Anna van der Breggen had already been committed to the chase before Lotte Kopecky took over with the last of her strength. The Belgian reduced Markus’ advantage to 12 seconds inside the final two kilometres, but Wiebes was left isolated and had to manage her own position as Liv AlUla Jayco moved forward for Letizia Paternoster.

Markus was finally swept up with just 500 metres remaining. Elisa Balsamo was well positioned for the sprint, but Wiebes launched with around 400 metres to go and once again proved untouchable, extending her winning start to the Tour and retaining the yellow jersey.

The stage had already been made selective by a succession of climbs between Aigle and Geneva. Lotte Kopecky raised the pace on the steep Cote de Bougy-Villars, creating splits in the peloton after struggling without water during Stage 1. Wiebes remained safely near the front, while Charlotte Kool and Chiara Consonni were among the sprint contenders unable to survive in the reduced main group.

Celia Gery then attacked on the final categorised climb and was joined by Nina Berton, with Sara Casasola, Sarah Van Dam and Amanda Spratt among those attempting to bridge across. The move briefly combined with the remnants of the earlier breakaway before poor cooperation allowed the peloton to close it down.

Markus countered almost immediately and quickly opened a gap of around one minute. Lidl – Trek still had Balsamo behind for the sprint, but the Dutch rider’s strength forced SD Worx to carry almost the entire responsibility for the chase.

Nienke Vinke and Mischa Bredewold worked first before Van der Breggen was sent to the front. Kopecky was initially preserved as Wiebes’ final lead-out rider, only to be used in the chase once Markus continued to hold half a minute inside the final eight kilometres.

The main breakaway had taken more than 50 kilometres to form following repeated attacks from the start in Aigle. Eline Jansen and Ukrainian champion Yuliia Biriukova initiated the move before Carlotta Cipressi, Ema Comte and Anouska Koster joined them. Their advantage grew beyond two minutes, briefly moving Jansen into the virtual yellow jersey after she began the day 40 seconds behind Wiebes. Biriukova collected the maximum 25 points at the intermediate sprint, while Wiebes led the peloton through to add another 11 points to her total.

The break began to fracture on the late climbs. Cipressi and Biriukova were dropped before Jansen, Comte and Koster were joined by the counterattack from the peloton. Koster collected seven mountains points across the stage, but Oceane Mahe retained the polka-dot jersey by a single point.

Markus then emerged from the reshuffling as the final obstacle between Wiebes and another victory. Her attack survived until the finishing straight, but the yellow jersey recovered from losing her entire lead-out and still delivered the fastest sprint in Geneva.
