GC Update 2025 Tour de France | Mathieu van der Poel takes the Yellow Jersey on stage 2 with Pogacar & Vingegaard already on provisional podium

We have had two incredibly exciting stages to kick off the 2025 Tour de France. Both have had a winner from Alpecin-Deceuninck too, with Mathieu van der Poel taking over control of the Maillot Jaune from teammate Jasper Philipsen thanks to his stage 2 success.

In a thrilling finale to the day, Van der Poel held off the challenge of world champion Tadej Pogacar in an uphill sprint for the line, taking the stage win and the Yellow Jersey in the process. In terms of the GC standings, Van der Poel now holds a 4 second advantage over Pogacar, with Jonas Vingegaard breathing down the necks of both of them at just 6 seconds off the race lead.

Kevin Vauquelin had a strong performance and rises to 4th overall at 10 seconds, tied on time with Vingegaard's Team Visma | Lease a Bike teammate Matteo Jorgenson and Enric Mas. Philipsen now slots in at 7th overall, 31 seconds off his teammate, with British debutant Joseph Blackmore, Tobias Johannessen and Ben O'Connor completing the top-10, all at 41 seconds.
