"I'm on the right path and people are finally forgiving me" - Jan Ullrich believes his doping confession will lead him to inner peace

After numerous low blows, the 1997 Tour de France winner and two-time world champion Jan Ullrich believes he is on the right path thanks to his late doping confession.

"I'm on the right path and people are finally forgiving me," Ullrich said in an interview with Bild. "I eat healthily, I haven't drunk alcohol for five years and I try to ride my bike for two hours four times a week. Only not when it's sleeting," explained the 1997 Tour winner, who has confessed to doping last year.

Ullrich contested his last professional race in 2006 before his career was effectively ended by the Fuentes doping scandal. "Of course the doping thing was a huge mistake, and I can only strongly advise everyone against it. But the pressure in sport and in society was different back then," he said.

It took him "until now to find my center again and be with myself," said the 2000 Olympic champion and two-time time trial world champion. Now he's doing "everything very calmly, unlike before."
